Spalted Beech seat and Ash legs.  The artisan who made this stool is used to working in Green Wood, which is unseasoned, reasonably fresh off the tree.  Seats need to be made from fully seasoned wood though, in this case seasoned beech.  Spalting is any form of wood coloration caused by fungi. Spalting can also occur in living trees under stress. Although spalting can cause weight loss and strength loss in the wood, the unique coloration and patterns of spalted wood are sought by woodworkers.
